Weekend-Retreat April 2025, Berlin, Birnbaum !2 spots available!

I’ll be offering shiatsu sessions this weekend at the beautiful Touchee Berlin retreat space. Here are some information on my background and my practice of Shiatsu.

Whether you are seeking relaxation, relief from tension, or simply an opportunity to reconnect, I look forward to meeting you—body, mind, and soul.

I’ve been working in the fields of dance, somatic practices, and bodywork since 1997. My journey began with dance practice earlier in Istanbul then continued with dance studies in the Netherlands, where I developed a deep understanding of liberated and conscious movement and the connection between body and mind. During my functional anatomy classes, Eva Karczag introduced us not only to concepts like tensegrity, fascia, and embodied movement but also to Shiatsu and the meridians. She used these practices to help us explore the diverse landscapes of different bodies and deepen our understanding of touch and its role in movement and connection. This experience planted the seeds for my later exploration of Shiatsu as a practice in its own right.

In 2004, I earned full certification from Stott/Merrithew Pilates and began teaching in Istanbul. My dance education, rooted in somatic practices, influenced my contemporary approach to Pilates. Until 2016, I worked with post-rehabilitation clients, professional dancers, and with individuals seeking relief from pain or wanting to reconnect with their bodies, helping them rediscover movement and confidence.

With a growing curiosity about fascia and the quality of touch, and inspired by Thomas Myers’ Anatomy Trains, in 2009, I attended his Structural Integration training in Oxford. This training deepened my understanding of how movement, posture, and health interact—and how they shape us as the biopsychosocial beings we are.

Finally in Berlin, I started studying Shiatsu in the Masunaga Tradition at the European Shiatsu Institute (ESI) with Katrin Schröder (2021). Rooted in Zen principles, this approach emphasizes the extended meridian system and the flow of energy throughout the body.

I am certified as a Shiatsu Practitioner and as a Holistic Health Practitioner (Gesundheitspraktikerin) by the German Association for Alternative Medicine (DGAM).

Friday community classes at PiP/Flutgraben

21st of March

10h-12:30h

Ways to Begin

Skinner Releasing Technique introductory class 1

Individuality and community; the parts and the whole; autonomy and interdependence; holding and letting go.

These seeming dichotomies belong to each other to allow an expensive experience.

In this class of its progressive pedagogy, Joan Skinner invites us to these concepts as kinaesthetic experiences with solo, partner, and group studies. The process of letting go is prevalent. But what to let go, where to let go? How? What is left after letting go? What is revealed when letting go?  Why letting go?

The poetic and specific language of the technique suggests answers in this guided movement practice. Each class becomes a dance of shifting awarenesses, tapping into your power, gently. Gentleness can be powerful.

Classes are donation-based.

Important: The class starts at 10:00, please come at least 15 minutes before, to settle, to arrive. Please bring your water bottle, notebook/pen/pencil and warm, comfy layers to wear.

Limited to 10 participants. Please send an e-mail for joining the class or further questions: kneadedpractices@icloud.com

And check this out for a wonderful interview of Bettina Neuhaus with Joan Skinner

Skinner Releasing Week-end Intensive (in French) -ENG-

At the start of this season, HONOLULU is pleased to offer a Skinner Releasing Technique workshop to introduce you to Joan Skinner's teaching approach.

Created by Joan Skinner in the late 1960s in the United States and still relatively unknown in France, Skinner Releasing is both a method for dance improvisation and a somatic practice. Placing imagination at the core of learning, poetic images awaken and alter spontaneous movement. Each class becomes a changing landscape that resonates beyond the studio.

This workshop invites participants to explore and practice some of the foundational principles of Skinner Releasing: suppleness, autonomy, playfulness, openness, and integrity. Music and soundscapes support movement studies, image explorations, and the process of letting go (releasing). It brings together the first five classes of the introductory cycle of this progressive pedagogy, taught alternately by two teachers.
